Saturday 25th April ANZAC Day Centenary All welcome / War memorial, Cummins Theatre / 5.45am, 10.30am, 2pm / Free  ANZAC Day is a special one this year, commemorating the centenary of Gallipoli as well as being the day when we generally remember Australians who served in all wars. As you know, we’ve put some work into the war memorial, more than doubling the size of the garden and planting special edition “Gallipoli Centenary” roses, which will provide a beautiful centrepiece to the dawn service. 5.45am: Dawn march departs from Post Office The dawn service will take place at the war memorial. After the service, everyone is welcome to enjoy some hot drinks and breakfast at the Tivoli Room. 10.30am: Morning march departs from the Post Office The morning service will take place at the Cummins Theatre, and there will be a free community morning tea that everyone present at the service will be invited to. 2pm: “Entertaining the Troops” variety show This year there will also be a special “Entertaining the Troops” variety show at the Cummins Theatre. The variety show will be comprised of local singers, dancers, musicians, actors and more, and will also be free to attend. Bikers against child abuse (B.A.C.A.)

Bikers against child abuse (B.A.C.A.)

Bikers Against Child Abuse B.A.C.A.® I met these bikers at the local community show where they had come to spread their message. I was so impressed by their commitment and determination that I wanted to write about them and tell as many people as possible because if this webpage can reach even one child that needs these guys then it is a job well done. When I was talking to the biker in charge I asked him what he wanted me to write, he said “This bit here, nothing more, nothing less” as he pointed to the Mission Statement on the flyer he handed me. So that is what I will write…nothing more and nothing less. B.A.C.A.® Mission Statement (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organisation. We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organisation, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle. Merredin Show

Merredin Show

Merredin Community Show 2015 It’s Showtime Again!   Once again the Merredin show committee and the people of Merredin have hosted another fantastic community show. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done. A street parade led to the opening of the show and there was a good variety of stalls to see including farm machinery and farm displays, crafts, jewelry, candles, collector’s wares and wine stalls. The schools and craft exhibitions along with some very talented acts throughout the day ranging from old favorites like the simply awesome ‘Bad Piper.’ Rachel Wells kept us watching in awe at her stilt walking from Big Sky Entertainments and the Moto X wowed us with their stunt riding. Then there was new-to-town displays of the ‘Junk Room Gypsies.’ who invited interested people to join them in some classes on Monday nights at the CRC in Merredin. Sideshow alley and the food vans were also a big hit with the crowds. All these amazing talented people did a top job on the weekend and I take nothing away from them when I say this year’s show was prominent in ‘causes’ and I was proud of that. James Kermode in the World’s Greatest Head Shave had his head shaved by his nieces Anna and Hayley Collison they raised funds for The Leukaemia Foundation. James whole family was there to support them. Lisa Arthur of the Merredin Youthcare Council made ANZAC biscuits to raise their funds for Youthcare. Western Reptile Rescue Inc is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of Australia’s beautiful native reptiles and amphibians Michelle offers a free snake removal and relocation service. Michelle Marks and Gary Davies of West Aussie Reptiles got together for a photo with an olive python.   No one could miss the bikers, didn’t they look fantastic and their message was a big and strong one! They call themselves B.A.C.A. which stands for ‘Bikers Against Child Abuse’ with a tag line ‘Keepers of the Children.’ Excellent, fantastic, awesome, superb…none of these words can say enough to support these guys well enough. I am hoping I can get permission to write about them separately. The Mens Shed were all out in force...

Woodstock country muster

Woodstock country muster

Woodstock country muster Kellerberrin WA 2015   Peter Mitchel hosted the Woodstock Country Muster at his family property in Kellerberrin in February 2015. We attended not knowing what to expect but we were surprised! The venue offered free camping so we took our caravan so we could both have a glass or two of wine and not worry about having to drive home.  It took a little while to find a camping spot but this was due to a lot of people taking advantage of the service rather than not enough room, there must have been at least 30 acres of camping area. Everyone was happy and having fun, the overall mood was festive. After setting up the van we headed up to the event area where a huge crowd had gathered to watch the rodeo. Non stop rodeo events and very clever clowns entertained us for most of the afternoon and continued well into the evening. The day was quite warm and there wasn’t much shade but the bar had free bottled water to keep you hydrated. There had been a 4×4 display prior to the rodeo. The band, Renegade took to the stage after dark and played into the night, they were good to listen and dance to and then the event closed for the evening. I wouldn’t want to miss this next year, we had a really good time but I would say… Bring a sun unbrella, camping chair, and a torch.
